Your questions, answered: the Serenity Oaks Dental FAQ

Our front desk hears many of the same great questions every week, so we've put the answers in one place. Don't see yours? Call us at 210-545-3929. We're happy to help.

New patients

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes! We welcome new patients of all ages. Your first visit is just $99 for a comprehensive exam and full X-rays with Dr. Bhatti. See our new patient page.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly with us online or by phone.

What happens at my first visit?

Plan on about an hour. We confirm your details and insurance, take low-dose digital X-rays, and Dr. Bhatti does a careful exam of your teeth, gums and bite. Then we go over what we found, your options, and the cost, with plenty of time for your questions.

What should I bring?

  • A photo ID
  • Your dental insurance card, if you have one
  • A list of the medicines you take
  • Any recent dental X-rays, if you have them

It's been years since I've seen a dentist. Will I get a lecture?

Never. Whether it's been six months or six years, you'll be welcomed, not judged. We'll start where you are and make a plan that fits your health and your budget.

I'm nervous about the dentist. What can you do?

Tell us when you book. We go at your pace, explain each step before we do it, use plenty of numbing, and you can take a break any time. Just raise your hand. Here are 7 more things that make a visit easier.

Insurance and cost

Do you take my insurance?

We're in-network with most PPO dental plans, including Aetna, Ameritas, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Cigna, GEHA, Guardian, Humana, Lincoln Financial, MetLife, Mutual of Omaha, Principal, Sun Life and UnitedHealthcare. Don't see your plan? Call us and we'll check your benefits before your visit. See all insurance plans.

Do you take Medicare?

Original Medicare usually doesn't cover routine dental care, but many Medicare Advantage plans do. We work with Humana Medicare, Aetna Medicare, and AARP and UnitedHealthcare Medicare dental benefits. Learn how Medicare dental coverage works in Texas.

I don't have dental insurance. Can I still come in?

Absolutely. New patients can start with our $99 exam and X-rays, and we offer monthly payment plans through Cherry so you can spread the cost over time. Need a crown? See our crown cost guide and no-insurance coupon.

Will I know the cost before treatment?

Yes. We check your benefits, explain your options, and give you the cost up front, before any treatment. We also file your insurance claims for you.

Does my dental insurance reset every year?

Most plans reset on January 1, and unused benefits don't carry over. If you haven't had your cleanings this year, or you've been putting off treatment, the end of the year is a great time to use the benefits you've already paid for.
